Abstract

The family is the primary and primary environment that underpins the development of a child's personality and character. However, reality shows that many students in elementary and secondary schools experience a lack of initiative, low independence, and mental fragility due to overly restrictive and overprotective parenting styles. This study aims to analyze in depth the impact of overprotective parenting on the dynamics of social interactions, psychological conditions, and levels of independence of children in school. The method used is a qualitative approach with a systematic literature study design enriched by phenomenological observations of real events in the surrounding environment. The results show that extreme parental control—including excessive contact, constant assistance, strict supervision, and even taking over problems—has a negative impact on children's psychology. In the classroom, children grow up to be passive, selfish, give up easily, sensitive, and experience anxiety when making decisions. Blind defense from parents against rule violations at school and restrictions on exploration at home actually trigger the emergence of the strawberry generation phenomenon, which is prone to depression, disobedience, and even aggressive behavior such as bullying due to suppressed emotional outbursts. The conclusion of this study confirms that overprotection contradicts the principle of children's spiritual independence and backfires, damaging their mental health. Therefore, it is crucial for parents to increase their understanding of healthy parenting, reduce anxiety, and provide a safe and responsible space for freedom to foster an independent and resilient generation.*
