Abstract

The tradition of eating Bajamba is one of the cultural heritages of the Minangkabau people which has been passed down from generation to generation and is still maintained today, including by the residents of Kamang in Agam Regency, West Sumatra. This activity functions not only as a means of eating together, but also as a way to increase social cohesion, strengthen family relationships, and instill traditional and moral values in young people. This research aims to explain the implementation of the Bajamba Eating Tradition in the Kamang community and to examine the cultural values contained therein. The methodology applied is a qualitative approach by collecting data through reviewing various related journals, books and scientific articles. The research results show that the Bajamba eating tradition is carried out at various traditional and religious events, such as weddings, batagak penghulu, and commemorations of Islamic holidays. This tradition contains the values of togetherness, cooperation, respect for elders, politeness and self-control which are in line with the Minangkabau Adat Basandi Syarak philosophy, Syarak Basandi Kitabullah. The existence of this tradition is a characteristic of Kamang community culture and also plays an important role in preserving Minangkabau socio-cultural values amidst the progress of the times.
