Abstract

This article explores the mystery of the grave and the Barzakh realm, examining their impact on human character formation. The main issue addressed is the paradox of thought, in which humans neglect metaphysical realities due to empirical limitations. Using qualitative-descriptive library research based on authoritative texts such as Lisan al-Arab, Al-Ghazali’s Ihya Ulumuddin, and Ibn Qayyim al-Jauziyyah’s Ar-Ruh, the study finds that the grave is not merely a physical resting place but a metaphysical stage (Barzakh) reflecting one’s deeds. A deep understanding of this concept transforms fear of death into moral motivation (zikrul maut), strengthening faith and ethics. In Islamic education, the notion of Barzakh serves as a “silent advisor,” fostering self-awareness (muraqabah) and self-evaluation (muhasabah). The study suggests further research on the psychological aspects of death to address existential and mental health crises in the modern era.
