Abstract

Students are asked to evaluate their own progress, degree of mastery, and current standing in respect to the skills they have learnt via the use of self-assessment.  This research seeks to discover the extent to which class X MAN 1 students in Semarang City have used a self-assessment based approach for learning Arabic and to identify the elements that have helped and hindered this model's adoption.  The results of this research will be useful in determining whether or not the self-assessment model is an effective tool for increasing students' motivation to learn Arabic.  The researcher used a case study methodology to conduct field research as a qualitative research method.  Students' interest in competing to improve their Arabic skills might be sparked by this self-evaluation.  Overall, the findings suggest that self-assessment may still be implemented and improved upon, which is in line with the principle of constructivism learning.
